Bruno Le Maire supports a socialist text to eliminate bank commissions for the death of a minor

The text released by the MP for Puy-de-Dôme, Christine Pirès-Beaune, plans to eliminate all fees for closing an account in the event of the death of a child, as well as accounts whose balance does not exceed 5,000 euros.

“Let us not add a lack of humanity to the pain.” This was announced in RMC by the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire.

The text released by the MP for Puy-de-Dôme, Christine Pirès-Beaune, plans to eliminate all account closing costs in the event of the death of a minor, as well as accounts whose balance does not exceed 5,000 euros, regardless of the age of the person. And for those who exceed this threshold, rates will now be regulated.

Christine Pirès-Beaune deplores to AFP a banking sector that is “uncooperative” on this issue. “I am surprised by the lack of aggregate data” to quantify these costs, she stressed.

A measure estimated at several million for the banks

Bruno Le Maire was not his first attempt. In 2021, the story that followed the death of 9-year-old Léo affected the Bercy tenant, also a father. The boy’s parents were charged the sum of 138 euros to close his A notebook.

He then tried to convince the banks to change their practices themselves. The Minister of Economy had been fired by them, a measure that cost the banking establishments several million. “This text will be examined in the Assembly on February 29 and I am sure that it will reach a consensus,” declared Bruno Le Maire in X.
