It’s a new record. The Livret A book continues its momentum with a record month of September, albeit with a slowdown compared to August, according to figures published on Friday by the Caisse des dépôts (CDC).
Net inflows, that is, the difference between deposits and withdrawals by savers, stood at almost 2.7 billion euros, more than ten times the amount in September 2021.
If it is a historical level for September, it is, however, a slowdown after the 4,490 million of the previous month, also historical, for the month of August. July was also historic, making this the third month in a row that the Livret A savings account posted record inflows for the period.
470 million euros raised in the LDDS
For comparison, the net collection of Livret A in September 2021 was €240 million.
That of the Sustainable Development and Solidarity Book (LDDS), for its part, reached 470 million euros in September 2022, compared to a negative net inflow of 260 million in September 2021, having then exceeded the deposits provisions.
The two booklets together raised more than €3.1bn in September and €30.6bn since the beginning of the year.
A negative net return
If the increase in the rate of the Livret A and the LDDS to 2% from August 1, compared to the previous 1%, may have encouraged the French to deposit their savings there, it is important to note that their performance remains negative considering inflation account The latter reached 5.6% per year in September according to INSEE.
Managed jointly by the Caisse des dépôts and the banking networks, the Livret A is mainly used to finance social housing, while the LDDS is dedicated to the social and solidarity economy, as well as energy savings in housing.
The outstanding amount of the two prospectuses also exceeded the symbolic bar of 500,000 million euros, at 500,300 million euros very precisely (+5.9% in one year).
