Italy and France signed a letter of intent on Monday aimed at laying the foundations for a common industrial center to strengthen their defense capabilities, a press release from the Italian Ministry of Defense announced. The announcement was made after a meeting in Corsica between the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, and his Italian counterpart, Guido Crosetto.
Develop new land platforms.
The ministry’s press release specifies that the program aims to “strengthen Europe’s industrial cooperation and defense capabilities through the joint development of new land platforms.”
Italian conglomerate Leonardo is already associated with Thales in two partnerships: satellite services company Telespazio and space equipment manufacturer Thales Alenia Space. The French Minister of the Armed Forces considered it “natural” that Italy could participate in the “tank of the future” program.
