“All-you-can-eat flights” for 599 euros a year: Wizz Air sells 10,000 passes in 48 hours

According to Bloomberg, the airline will renew this promotional operation that allows passengers to travel on its network for one year for 9.99 euros per flight.

If some consider the promotional campaign to be environmental heresy, it is a commercial success. According to Bloomberg, Wizz Air sold out its 10,000 “All You Can Fly” passes in 48 hours.

This package sold for 599 euros allows you to travel on their network for a year for 9.99 euros per flight.

Taking advantage of this success, the Hungarian company plans to launch a new series of this show that has been the talk of the town on social media.

If the offer seems attractive on paper, it is accompanied by numerous limitations and hidden costs.

Firstly, the passenger who has a pass, as popularised by the “too good to go” formula, will have to make do with the unsold items.

Restrictions and additional costs

To book for the destination of your choice, you will have to wait until the last minute, i.e. three days before departure. This is a way for Wizz Air to fill its planes where there are empty seats at the last minute.

The “All You Can Fly” formula therefore does not guarantee seat availability. It will therefore be more suitable for fans of “last minute” weekends or holidays.

Passengers may also have to pay additional costs. For example, if they want to choose their seat, they will have to pay an extra fee. The same applies if they do not travel light: cabin luggage, like checked luggage, is subject to an extra charge. The company only allows one small bag per person.

Faced with multiple criticisms, and while some advocate a reduction in air traffic to limit greenhouse gas emissions from the sector, the company has found an argument.

The pass “in fact contributes to maximising the occupancy rate during the 72 hours prior to the flight. A high occupancy rate is an essential efficiency factor and helps reduce the intensity of emissions,” explains Yvonne Moynihan, General Manager and Head of ESG at Wizz Air.
