Pocket money: an increasing average amount, the most pampered Corsican children

According to the latest Pixpay barometer, adolescents receive an average of 33 euros per month in pocket money, 2 euros more than last year.

Does pocket money benefit from the effects of inflation? One thing is certain, the average amount parents pay teens has increased this year.

According to the latest Pixpay* barometer, they charge an average of 33 euros per month, 2 euros more than last year (+6.45%). A boost equivalent to French inflation that obviously masks the disparities.

First, only 1 in 2 teens regularly receives pocket money. Then, obviously age is important, if 10-12 year olds receive an average of 26 euros per month, 12-14 year olds receive 26 euros, 14-16 year olds 31 euros, 16-18 year olds 41 euros and those of 45 euros for people over 18 years of age.

Britons and Normans the worst unemployed

But the strongest differences are observed according to the place of residence. According to the barometer, with 50 euros on average per month, young Corsicans are the most pampered, well ahead of teenagers from the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, in second place nationally, who receive 37 euros (compared to to almost 6 euros for more than a year).

Then come the small residents of Ile-de-France, the Burgundians and the Franco-Comtois, who receive an average of 35 euros.

On the other hand, young Britons and Normans close the ranking with a monthly average of 28 euros per month. But it is much more than in 2021 (20 euros for the Bretons and 22 euros for the Normans).

Dads more generous than moms

Perhaps the latter should turn to their parents. If it is the mothers who manage the pocket money in 69% of the cases, the fathers tend to be more generous. According to the study, they pay their children 8 euros more on average, an amount that even amounts to an additional 20 euros for those over 18 years of age (67 compared to 47 euros).

Another possibility is to supplement your pocket money by helping. Specifically, 14% of parents have given money to their adolescent son to carry out small family tasks (cleaning, gardening, etc.) which can still mean an additional 13 euros on average.

While the study doesn’t specify how this pocket money is spent, it does note that 71% of transactions were made contactless with a card or smartphone (Google Pay and Apple Pay were up sharply from 10.6% of transactions). in June 2021 at 20.6%). one year later). Among teenagers, cash is an old story…

*: The survey is based on data collected from more than 100,000 French teenage Pixpay users between September 2021 and June 2022.
