Pension reform: Socialist MPs will not vote on the proposal to repeal the RN

The PS group of deputies explains in a statement that it does not want to be associated “with any initiative of the National Grouping.”

PS MPs announced on Tuesday that they would not vote on RN’s text to repeal the pension reform, denouncing a “social lie” and promising to address the issue in the framework of the examination of the Social Security budget and on a day reserved for LFI texts in November.

The RN group has presented a repealing bill that will include in its “parliamentary niche” on October 31, the annual day on which a group dictates the agenda of the Assembly.

Faced with the announced opposition of right-wing and Macronist groups, the text will have to mathematically obtain the support of the left, an equation that affects all groups in the NFP.

The decision was made by the Socialist deputies in a press release on Tuesday.

“We do not vote for or associate ourselves with any initiative of the National Grouping. Last July we were elected as part of the Republican Front. We remain faithful to our line of conduct,” they said.

“A political lie”

The PS group’s press release does not specify whether its members will vote against or abstain, but their position makes the chances of adoption even more uncertain.

The Socialists denounce a “political lie” and argue that the best way to initiate a repeal would be to censure Michel Barnier’s government from October, a prospect that the RN rejects a priori at this stage.

They also point to a “social lie”, accusing RN of having “been completely absent from the mobilisation and the parliamentary debate against retirement at 64”.

They also argue that since the RN does not have a group in the Senate, it would be impossible for it to obtain the registration of its text in the Upper House, which is mostly hostile to the repeal, while the left has three groups, with parliamentarians. niches for all.

And the Socialists are promising to launch an offensive in the Assembly through amendments to the Social Security budget and through a text in the LFI “niche” on November 28.

“It’s not that we didn’t vote in favour of this text, a short-lived publicity stunt, that we are therefore giving up the battle; on the contrary, our voters will soon see our full mobilisation to truly lead the repeal of the reform,” Arthur Delaporte, a spokesman for the group, told AFP.

The RN text provides for restoring the normal retirement age to 62, “starting with the generation of 1955,” and setting the required contribution period at 42 years, “starting with the generation of 1961.” A sort of intermediate stage, before more ambitious modifications should the Frente come to power, according to Frente leaders.
