It’s time to pay your taxes. As every year, the tax administration will begin this Thursday, September 26, to collect the balance of income tax from taxpayers whose withholding at source in 2023 was not sufficient to cover the entire amount claimed in the tax notice.
Nearly 10 million tax-paying households are affected, particularly those who have not adjusted their tax rate following an increase in income or who benefited from an excessively large advance payment of tax credits last January.

This balance will be charged in one go on Thursday if the amount is less than 300 euros. If it is more than 300 euros, it will be charged in four instalments, with four withdrawals of the same amount to be made on Thursday 26 September, Friday 25 October, Monday 25 November and Friday 27 December, specifies the Directorate General of Public Finance Affairs (DGFip).
The withdrawal will be made automatically to the bank account. It will be identified in the bank statement by its origin (“General Directorate of Public Finance”) and by its wording (“income tax balance 2023”), specifies the DGFIP.
Payable online
If the tax authorities do not have your bank details, or if a direct debit has been refused, you can pay online on the Impos.gouv.fr website or with an authorised partner (a tobacconist for example) in cash, cheque or bank card if the amount is less than 300 euros. Beyond that, it is only possible online.
