The increase in the tax on airline tickets, planned in the 2025 budget, is “legitimate” and will be carried out in a balanced way, Transport Minister François Durovray said on Thursday, on the sidelines of a trip to the Airbus airport. places near Toulouse.
“The finance bill effectively includes an increase in the tax on airline tickets, which seems legitimate to me taking into account the weight of aviation in greenhouse gas emissions,” the minister explained in statements to the press in a hangar that houses one of the aeronautical giant’s facilities. assembly lines in Blagnac (Haute Garonne), recalling that aviation represented “around 3%” of these emissions.
This increase project “gave rise to very detailed work with all airlines to make it bearable” and to “also preserve the companies and the French flag,” he estimated.
Supporting the total decarbonization of the sector
Regarding this tax, the government said in mid-October that it would be attentive to the consequences of its increase in airline tickets for overseas populations. François Durovray also considered the goal of total decarbonization of the aeronautical sector between now and 2025 “achievable.”
“Airbus is fully involved in these issues,” the minister congratulated himself, estimating that “if this change is not made, we know very well that French aviation and European aviation will not be able to play the same role as today.”
