Salmonella: massive egg recall throughout France

The affected egg cartons have “the minimum durability date between 10/24/2024 and 10/31/2024”, and were marketed between September 29 and October 10.

This Friday, health authorities carried out a massive recall of batches of eggs sold by several major brands throughout the country, due to possible salmonella contamination. On the official Rappel Conso website, a first withdrawal indicates that “the Ovalis company withdraws eggs from the market as a precautionary measure against potentially contaminated eggs.” [à la] Salmonella Typhimurium”, marketed by the brands Carrefour, Coopérative U, Auchan, Intermarché, Leclerc, Maximo, but also distributed in Restos du coeur.

This recall brings together several brands: Tout frais tout français (eggs packaged in boxes of 6 or 12 eggs), Douce France (6 and 12), Ovalis (10) and Poitou oeufs (6). The affected egg cartons have “the minimum durability date between 10/24/2024 and 10/31/2024”, and were marketed between September 29 and October 10.

Carrefour Original and Eco+ brand eggs

Three more recalls were published separately on Friday, this time with precise batch numbers: one concerns the Carrefour Original brand, and the eggs also come from supplier Ovalis. Another concerns the batches of unbranded eggs sold by Lidl and the latest batches of the Eco+ brand sold by E.Leclerc. For all these eggs recalled from the market, it is recommended “no longer [les] consume,” “do not use the product anymore,” “destroy it,” or “return it to the point of sale,” according to the government website.

It is recalled that “food poisoning infections caused by salmonella cause gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhea, vomiting) of sudden onset, often accompanied by fever and headaches, which generally occur between 6 and 72 hours after consumption of the contaminated products” .

“People who have consumed these products and who present these symptoms are invited to consult their doctor and report this consumption. In the absence of symptoms within 7 days after consuming the products in question, there is no need to worry and consult a doctor.” , emphasizes Rappel Conso.
