Prompted by Victor Castanet’s shocking book, “The Ogres,” which exposed abuses in private daycares, the People & Baby group found itself in serious financial difficulties.
According to information from BFMTV, the daycare network is facing significant liquidity problems, to the point that several providers no longer get paid. Bailiffs have also been sent to nurseries in recent days over unpaid bills.
For their part, employees learned through an email from management that they will not receive their full October salary. They should first receive a deposit of 350 euros on October 31 and the rest next week, according to the email address that we were able to consult.
“Exceptional measures” that the directors justify due to treasury difficulties, linked to the “numerous maneuvers and judicial actions of Christophe Durieux”, founding head of People and Baby, who arrived last April.
“Guarantee of payment of salaries”
The national union of early childhood professionals (SNPPE) mobilizes and requests in particular the “implementation of an economic alert right by the Economic and Social Committee (CSE) of People & Baby, in order to verify the financial situation of the company and the measures adopted to guarantee the payment of salaries.
It also requests “information from the Labor Inspection, to guarantee monitoring and, where appropriate, sanctions in the event of non-compliance with legal obligations” regarding the payment of salaries and mentions “the possibility of appeal to the Labor Court for employees , in order to obtain full payment of their salaries, if the situation continues.”
In his book “Les Ogres”, Victor Castanet denounced abuses by certain private daycare groups that represent a quarter of daycare centers in France. To AFP he spoke of policies of “cost optimization, a dynamic of low costs, which have detrimental effects for the entire sector”, as well as cases of mistreatment in certain establishments, such as “beatings, scratches, punishments in the dark, humiliations, deprivation of food.”
Contacted, People & Baby evokes “treasury tensions” and an “exceptional situation” that guarantees that salaries will be well paid.
