Agrarian orientation law: the FNSEA “needs things to move forward”

Although the examination of the agricultural guidance bill will not take place until early 2025, FNSEA president Arnaud Rousseau considered that “the pace is not appropriate.”

The president of the FNSEA, Arnaud Rousseau, deplored on Thursday that the parliamentary examination of the agricultural guidance bill will not take place until early 2025, estimating that farmers “need it to move forward” to see “concrete decisions in their field.”

Prime Minister Michel Barnier himself “said: ‘We will resume without delay (…) this bill of agricultural orientation’. And what we see is that it will not be before the month of January,” lamented Arnaud Rousseau, during a conference press in Merville (Haute Garonne).

Farmers “want concrete decisions on their farms, so we need things to move forward and, for us, the pace is not right,” he added. However, he clarified that “in the text there are a series of elements that suit us, in particular the fact of recognizing agriculture as of great general interest for the nation.”

An “urgent” text

The president of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, “regretted” on Sunday that the agricultural orientation bill will not return to Parliament until “early 2025”, considering this text “urgent”, while demonstrations by farmers are announced to mid-November.

On Saturday, Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard confirmed that this bill, drawn up to respond to discontent in the sector but which could not be examined in the Senate after being adopted in the Assembly due to the dissolution, will be examined in commission. in mid-December and in public session in January.

Michel Barnier announced at the beginning of October that his government would “resume without delay” this text that places agriculture as a great general interest, creates a single window for the installation of new farmers and facilitates the construction of agricultural and livestock facilities. or water reserves.
