Manuels Valls, absent from the new Government, “regrets not having been able to complete” his action abroad

The until then Minister of Overseas, Manuel Valls, is not part of the new government team of Sébastien Lecornu, announced this Sunday night.

Manuel Valls expressed, this Monday, October 13, his regret “for not being able to complete” his action at the head of the Overseas Ministry, where he obtained, in particular, an agreement on the future of New Caledonia, questioned since then by some separatists.

“I am leaving the government without regret in the face of the political situation and what we have been experiencing for several days (…) but I regret not being able to complete my action,” declared Manuel Valls in an interview with Outremer la 1ère.

Manuel Valls wishes “good luck” to his successor

He recalled “that there was still much to do in favor of the overseas territories.” “In particular against the high cost of living, against insecurity, for the issues of New Caledonia, but also for the reconstruction of Mayotte,” he continued, wishing “good luck and good luck” to his successor Naïma Moutchou. The 44-year-old Horizons deputy, resigned Minister of Public Service, was appointed on Sunday to head the Overseas Ministry.

“François Bayrou had made it a priority by appointing me Minister of State, which meant that there was a real priority from abroad and that had never been seen before, but that is no longer the case. That is how it is,” lamented Manuel Valls.

The former prime minister negotiated the Bougival agreement, signed in July between the non-independence supporters, the State and the separatists, from which the FLNKS has since withdrawn and which remains fragile.

This text provides for the creation of a State of New Caledonia, with its own nationality, but included in the French Constitution. It also means the postponement of the provincial elections until mid-2026, a crucial period in the local political balance.

“We must continue discussing, and I will continue discussing with the FLNKS, committing myself that in October there will be discussions or negotiations to prepare the amendments without changing the great balances of the constitutional and organic law,” he warned. Manuel Valls asked to continue its action in the overseas territories “in one way or another, otherwise irreversible ruptures are possible.”
