Health authorities have carried out a massive recall of batches of Monts d’Or, these soft cow’s milk cheeses made in the heart of the Jura massif. These are cheeses marketed throughout France since September 10 by the fruitiere des Jarrons in Ville-du-Pont, in Haut-Doubs.
Popular during winter periods, this liquid, washed-rind cheese is generally eaten hot with a spoon or with bread and potatoes.
Yersinia contamination
Boxes of 500 grams, 725 grams and 2.5 kilos are probably contaminated by the bacteria Yersinia enterocolitica, which can cause acute gastroenteritis accompanied by fever, diarrhea and abdominal pain. These symptoms usually appear 2 to 7 days after consumption.
The health withdrawal was not decided by prefectural decree, but as a precautionary measure. A refund is possible after returning the product to the store.
The government site Conso Rappel specifies that “people who have consumed these products and who present these symptoms are invited to consult their doctor and report this consumption,” warns the government site Conso Rappel.
If no symptoms have appeared within 14 days of consuming these products, there is nothing to worry about.
