While yesterday a false government composition described as “very confidential” was circulating in the WhatsApp loops of journalists and politicians, probably written by ministerial cabinet advisors who were a little bored at the moment, François Bayrou and Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday gave the impression of making progress in the composition of the future (royal) government, with two very close meetings at the Elysée, at noon and in the evening.
Officially, the announcement is still expected before the end of the week. In reality, few in the government believe it. For several reasons.
Marc Fesneau, who chairs the Les Démocrates group in the Assembly, spoke instead of discussions about a simple “initial architecture of the government.”
In reality, the government could be announced in two stages, with a first round of around twenty full-time ministers appointed before the holidays, complemented in January by a second round of delegate ministers and secretaries of state.
Macron in Brussels and then in Mayotte
The president’s schedule is also quite busy this weekend. He is expected to arrive in Brussels at the end of the day on Wednesday for an EU-Balkans summit and will fly immediately to Mayotte.
After Mayotte, the president will continue with a planned stop in Djibouti, then another in Ethiopia, before returning, in theory, to Paris on Sunday morning.
François Bayrou announced on Tuesday afternoon on France 2 that he, in turn, will soon travel to Mayotte. “As soon as the President of the Republic has left (the island), as soon as the government is formed, obviously I will go to mobilize all the resources of the State.” But when? Mystery.
