In fact, the increase in bank charges will be limited to 2% in 2023, despite some specific exceptions.

As announced two months ago on the sidelines of a meeting in Bercy, French banks will limit their price increases to 2% next year. On the contrary, certain products or operations will experience more accentuated inflation depending on the establishments.

Promised thing due thing. French banking institutions will effectively contain the increase in their costs below the 2% threshold in 2023, according to the commitments they had made and announced after a meeting at the Ministry of Economy and Finance on September 13. As every year, the information site dedicated to personal finance MoneyVox has analyzed the rate booklets of 127 banks as part of its “Bank Trophies” list.

In reality, French banks have been trying to limit this increase for some time according to the president of MoneyVox. “This commitment was not extremely restrictive for banks, because several years ago they moderated price inflation to a great extent due to strong competition from online banks, most of whose main services are free,” he explains- he told Le Parisian. It was mostly an advertisement effect.

Sharp increase in the cost of instant online transfers

If the commitment is respected in general, some specific exceptions remain, such as the cost of withdrawals outside the dealer network of their banks for clients of the Banques Populaires de Bourgogne – Franche-Comté or Val de France. Likewise, traditional customers of Crédit Mutuel de Basse-Normandie will see the cost of their card increase by almost 5%, while the means of payment insurance will practically double in several Caisses d’épargne to reach 36 euros and thus between market prices.

Other operations are also subject to price increases, such as the occasional transfer to an office, which increases by 1.4%, almost as much as the reissue of a bank card. In addition, the issuance of bank checks is close to a 3% increase. But the most significant increase is on the side of instant online transfers, the cost of which will increase by almost 3.5%. However, the European Commission has recently encouraged institutions to align their price with that of a traditional transfer.

There are still deficiencies in the face of the fragile clientele

In return, he is noticing that the plus of a French bank on four does not have the encore réduit the prize of children offered to fragile clients from 3 to 1 euro for the month of November, which constitutes the second engagement in Fort Announcement two months ago. “It is possible that these establishments have been disconcerted by the announcements of September 13, considers Maxime Chipoy. We will have to see what rate will actually be applied on January 1.”

The most significant reduction will affect Crédit du Nord clients who, as part of a merger, will take advantage of the approximation of network fees with Société Générale to register a reduction of around 15 to 22 euros in their annual bank charges, depending on their category. , from the young profile to the premium segment.

Unsurprisingly, it is online banks that offer the most attractive rates and MoneyVox bank trophies notably distinguish Boursorama and Fortuneo, but also Revolut for young people. The latter will be more interested in resorting to LCL or Banque Populaire among traditional establishments. Postal Bank remains unbeatable with traditional profiles, while Société Générale, BNP Paribas and recently Crédit Agricole regional banks dominate the premium segment.
