Tell us about the CFA Epure Méditerranée?
The CFA Epure Méditerranée, also called Formasup PACA, is an inter-university CFA from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The universities of Aix-Marseille, Nice, Toulon, Avignon, as well as the Ecole centrale de Marseille, the INSTN of the CEA of Cadarache and Sciences Po Aix have joined the regional employers’ union and Medef to establish it.
We have about 300 training courses distributed in all associated establishments, in large cities, but also in medium-sized cities to get closer to companies and apprentices.
Why is financial aid for learning an important issue?
Apprenticeship is an interesting system for companies looking for talent. But it is true that the government aid launched during Covid, between €5,000 and €8,000 per apprenticeship contract, has greatly encouraged companies to hire apprentices.
We have observed a change in the size of companies: we have gone from 70% apprentices in SMEs with less than 250 employees and 30% in large companies to 60 and 40%.
I am vice president of the national association of CFA for higher education (ANASUP), which defends with the government the need to maintain this aid, although we can imagine that it will decrease a bit.
So the number of apprentices is increasing?
We have seen strong growth in the number of apprentices, 30% in 2020, 27% in 2021 and another 12% this year. This year we have 7,400 apprentices compared to 6,500 last year. It is also thanks to our dynamic approach: we open new training courses every year and help trainees to access the benefits to which they are entitled.
The 2018 apprenticeship reform was positive in terms of funding apprenticeships in higher education, and universities are more inclined to develop apprenticeships. The challenge is that the number of trainees evolves faster than the available packs.
How is inclusion at the center of your approach?
This is part of our 14 missions as CFA, and we have recruited a person dedicated to inclusion, diversity and professional equality, to raise awareness internally, then to our university partners, companies and trainees.
Apprenticeship is a social boost, enabling young people to move up to +5 baccalaureate levels and gain executive status, while funding their studies. We follow young people from underprivileged neighborhoods and fight against discrimination.
We are committed to a process of professional equality, so that thanks to learning, women who do a “men’s job” can demonstrate their worth and have the same salary as a man when they are hired.
