TF1 summons Canal+ to court after stopping broadcasting its channels on TNT Sat

TF1 asks that its channels be restored in the TNT Sat satellite service, the only way for some homes to receive television in areas not served by terrestrial DTT.

TF1 cites Canal+ before the Paris Commercial Court for a summary trial, an urgent procedure, after the latter stopped broadcasting its channels for lack of a commercial agreement, the group told AFP, confirming information from Figaro.

The TF1 group asks that its channels be restored in the TNT Sat satellite service, the only way for some homes to receive television in areas not served by terrestrial DTT, mainly in the mountains.

The Canal+ group stopped broadcasting the channels of the TF1 group (TF1, TMC, TFX, TF1 Séries Films and LCI) last week due to a commercial dispute within the framework of the renewal of its distribution contract.

A new conflict after the one of 2018

A similar conflict had confronted the two audiovisual giants in 2018, without reaching the courts. The two groups deny responsibility for this new dispute.

On the Canal+ side, they assure us that TF1 was too greedy in the renegotiation of the contract, concluded at the end of 2018 after the first conflict and which ended on August 31. Canal judges that in the absence of an agreement, it was forced to cut the signal of the TF1 channels, under penalty of incurring in an infraction.

On the TF1 side, it is estimated that it was Canal that did not want to close a new agreement, while others have met in recent years with all the operators, and we point to a loss of audience due to this cut.

Last Friday, the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak, asked the Canal+ group to restore the broadcast of the TF1 channels in its TNT Sat offer.
