The Scaf (Future Air Combat System) program seems to be back on track. The disputes between Dassault and Airbus are said to be on the way to being resolved. The two partner groups responsible for creating the European fighter jet and its associated system have relaunched negotiations and “finally would be close to a workload sharing agreement.”
In BFM Business this Wednesday, Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus (and winner of the manager of the year award at the BFM Awards 2022) confirms this. “It is a very big issue for European sovereignty. (…) We are moving forward, Dassault is an important partner for Airbus, not only in Scaf.”
“No alternative”
“I remain optimistic, we will get there because it is an absolute must for Europe. We are at a meeting point that we have no right to lose and we all make our contribution to get there. And Airbus does. We have divided the work among ourselves and we will manage to find a place for everyone according to their best abilities, ”he adds.
In October, during a trip to the Orlando business aviation show, Eric Trappier, the Dassault boss, revealed that a deal with Airbus was on the way for the start of Phase 1B. Negotiations are still ongoing but should be completed “in the next few days or weeks.”
