Turn on the hot water tank for 4.3 million customers at night, instead of doing it between noon and 2 pm Since October 15, Enedis has tested its measure aimed at leveling the peak of energy consumption in a context of voltages for the French electrical system. Invited to France Bleu this Wednesday, Thierry Sudret, director of operations and systems at Enedis, drew up an initial balance, evoking a “great success”.
According to him, this delay in the automatic connection of the hot water tanks has saved 2.4 gigawatts of power, “more than the consumption of Paris.”
without cuts
The announcement of this measure at the beginning of October gave much to talk about. Some of the 4.3 million customers affected because they had subscribed to a “peak/off-peak” subscription feared that their hot water would be cut off between 12:00 and 14:00.
Given the concern, Enedis had communicated it a few days later, assuring that “this compensation measure will have no impact on the comfort or bill of the affected customers”, the decree of September 22 does not affect “in any way the power cuts”. .
“In these meridian hours, the hot water tank is being reset to zero, and what we are going to do is simply deactivate that reset, the water will continue to be hot, it will heat up all night, it will have the same comfort, the same uses; we can shower, use hot water as we want. Simply, the water will not be heated between noon and two,” Enedis spokesman Laurent Meric had specified on BFMTV.
