The Minister of Tourism, Nathalie Deattre, said Friday in RTL see a “slight decrease” of the arrival of American tourists to France for the bridges of May, in particular for congresses and commercial tourism, compensated by the arrival of Canadians.
“Leisure is very affected by the macroeconomic general atmosphere, the purchasing power, the exchange rate. But I am in constant connection with the tourist ecosystem (…), today it is a sector that resists,” said the minister in response to a question about the impact of customs tasks and Donald Trump’s policy.
100 million foreign visitors last year
“Return of Guadalupe and Martinica, where this tourism has increased and we will also seek to invest in other clients in compensation,” he said.
Last year, France welcomed 100 million foreign visitors and the sector obtained 71 billion euros in revenue, an increase of 12% compared to 2023 with several events (the ceremonies of commemoration of the landing, the reopening of Notre-Dame and the Olympic Games) and “thanks to that, we resist,” he added.
