The Trump administration announced on Monday, April 14, the freezing of 2.2 billion dollars in subsidies at Harvard University, one of the most prestigious in the world, after its refusal to meet the demands of the White House.
“The interruption of learning that has attacked campus in recent years is unacceptable. The harassment of Jewish students is intolerable. (…) The joint task force of the fight against anti -Semitism announces the frost of $ 2.2 billion in subsidies for several years,” said a statement from the United States Ministry of Education.
On the same day, Harvard had rejected the requirements of US administration, which accuses him of letting anti -Semitism prosper. Donald Trump had later threatened to reduce him almost $ 9 billion in grants.
Harvard “will not send your independence or your rights”
The university, regularly classified among the best establishments in the world, is the first to postpone the requirements of the Trump administration, although it has more to lose given its financing.
In a letter to students and teaching staff, the president of the University, Alan Garber, said that Harvard, “will not abdicate their independence or their rights guaranteed by the Constitution.”
“No government, whatever the ruling party, should dictate to private universities what they should teach, that can be enlisted and hired, or on what issues can conduct research,” he wrote.
