Welcoming his Lithuanian counterpart Gintautas Paluckas in Stockholm, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Krissels said at a press conference that “our current priority is a possible coordinated acquisition of CV90 infantry vehicles” with Finland, Norway and Lithuania.
“We are talking about at least several hundred vehicles, and they are relatively expensive,” said the Head of Swedish Government, remembering that “we increase our defense budgets, particularly those dedicated to military defense.”
At the end of March, Sweden said that its expenses dedicated to its defense in the next ten years would increase by around 28 billion euros, with the aim of reaching 3.5% of the gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030, against 2.4% currently.
Blindes well established in Europe
The CV90 are manufactured in Sweden by BAE Systems Hägglunds, a subsidiary of the British Defense Group BAE Systems. They are in service in the Danish, stubborn, Finnish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Slovaks, Czech and Ukrainian armies.
Sweden announced in 2023 to give approximately fifty of its CV90 to Ukraine. He also signed a joint contract with Denmark in December 2024 for the acquisition of 205 vehicles, including 50 to claim their shares, 115 for Denmark, the remaining 40 destined to be delivered to Ukraine.
