Emmanuel Macron, on a visit to Madagascar, said on Thursday, April 24 that he wanted to create the “conditions” of the “forgiveness” of the colonization of the island of the Indian Ocean, during a commemorative sequence in the Rova Palace in the Malga Capital this Thursday.
He also mentioned a “approach to make the two countries work (the) historians, a proposal on the model of the Historians created with other territories colonized by France such as Cameroon, Algeria, Senegal and Haiti.
An approach “so that truth, memory, history and reconciliation can arise,” he waited on Thursday.

“There are only you who can make this path of forgiveness, which is eminently intimate. But we create the conditions, allowing this human, very personal and very symbolic link to cry what is no longer,” said Emmanuel Macron after a visit by the old Royal-Royal with Prinosoa Ralandison Ratsimanga.
He alluded to the next restitution of the skulls of Sakalava, one of whom belonging to a Malgache King killed by the French army during the ambky massacre in 1897. It was the first application of the law of 2023 in the return of human remains.
“Our presence here is not innocent and our history is part of the centuries, but with eminently painful pages,” said Emmanuel Macron, citing the “bloody and tragic pages” of 1897.
