China “will evaluate” an American proposal for customs duties

Referring to a proposal of negotiations conducted by Washington, China declared open to dialogue, but believes that the United States will have to “cancel” its “unilateral customs rights” to show its “sincerity.”

China announced on Friday that it evaluated a proposal for the United States negotiations on customs tariffs applied by both parties in their assets. “The United States has recently taken the initiative on numerous occasions to transmit information to China (…), saying that (they waited) to argue with China,” the Ministry of Commerce told Beijing. “China is evaluating this,” added the press release.

Washington has imposed a surcharge of 145% on many Chinese products since April. Beijing reacted for attracting 125% customs tariffs in imported goods from the United States. The president of the United States, Donald Trump, who returned to companies in January and attached to his protectionist policy, suggested that China had contacted the United States to make discussions about customs tasks. Statements firmly denied by Beijing.

“Odds”

Donald Trump said Wednesday that there are “possibilities” that Beijing and Washington reach an agreement. China says that it is regularly open to dialogue, but on the basis of “mutual respect”, and said it was ready to fight “until the end” if necessary.

“If the United States wants to argue, you must show your sincerity to do so, be ready to correct your bad practices and cancel unilateral customs and Act tasks,” the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Friday. And to add: “If the US part does not correct its unilateral and bad customs duties, this means that the US part is completely hypocritical and will damage more mutual confidence between the two parts.”
