“He is right when asking the question.” BFM Politics guest this Sunday, May 4, Thierry Breton praised the idea of a referendum presented by François Bayrou on the reduction of deficits and debt.
If he judged that the initiative is “quite unusual”, the referendum is “the prerogative of the President of the Republic,” the former European commissioner said he was aligned with the prime minister’s words. “What he says is very true: he says that basically, we spend collectively more than we can do (…)”.
“Business to increase taxes”
“I’m not saying that one or the other should be punished,” Thierry Breton continued. But “we are the country that spends the most today to make our state work in all modern countries. So how do we not increase spending and, on the contrary, we lower them, not increase taxes and live better together? This is the question he raises (François Bayrou).”
The former Minister of the Economy opposes as head of government with any tax increase: “It is out of discussion today to increase taxes. We are already the country in the world that has the highest mandatory samples, so we will not continue. If it works, it would be known,” he said.
The lack of increase in taxes must be “non -negotiable,” according to him, “because we see it, every time we have a problem, it is Lepine’s competition to increase taxes here and there,” he deplored.
