In an interview with the program “Gather the press with Kristen Welker” by NBC News, broadcast on Sunday, US President added that he expected the Fed to reduce his interest rates at one time or another.

“(Powell) should reduce them. And in a moment, he will do it. He prefers not to do it because he is not one of my fans. You know, he doesn’t like it because I think it’s a real stuck,” he said during the interview, recorded on Friday in Florida.

When he was asked to say that if he intended to say goodbye to Jerome Powell of his functions before the end of his mandate in 2026, Donald Trump said: “No, no, no (…). Why would you do that? I have the opportunity to replace this person in a very short time.”

Donald Trump, who destabilized financial markets by imposing important customs tariffs on imported products in the United States, also refused to exclude NBC news the possibility that some of these samples will become permanent: “No, I wouldn’t do so, because if someone thinks that customs duties will no longer apply, why would I build in the United States?”

At the same time, he acknowledged that it was “very hard with China” in terms of customs duties, and added that Beijing now wanted to reach an agreement. “They really want to conclude an agreement. We will see how it is going, but it must be a fair agreement.”
