Parliament definitely adopted a text on Monday to eliminate certain inheritance costs, sometimes received as a “mourning tax” that aggravates the judgment of relatives of a deceased minor.
Lose your child and then have to pay costs to close their bank book: this situation already experienced by some parents will no longer occur from the entry into force of this invoice of the socialist deputy Christine Pirès Beaune.
After a unanimous vote of the Senate on Monday, the text proposed by the socialist parliamentarians and supported by the Government completed his career in Parliament, began for more than a year.
“This text brings a concrete and immediate improvement in the lives of millions of French faced, in a period of mourning, at sometimes extravagant bank costs,” said the Socialist Party in a press release.
“Advanced to protect families”
The most evocative measure aims to eliminate inheritance costs for heirs in cases where the deceased is lower. This initiative follows in particular the publicized case of parents who have to pay 138 euros to close the book A of their 8 -year -old son who died in May 2021.
“To the prayer of the absence, excessive bank costs should not be added, often little understood and not very legible for our fellow citizens,” supported the minister’s delegate to the social and solidarity economy Véronique Louwagie, greeting “an advance to protect families and guarantee confidence in the banking system.”
The simplest successions or those that involve sums below a scalable threshold will also be covered by this new law, currently established at 5.910 euros.
In other cases, not covered by free bank charges in succession, the amount of the latter would be limited to 1% of the total sums maintained, within the limit of an amount set by decree.
