The confidence of very small companies (very small businesses, less than 20 employees) towards Emmanuel Macron and their government is progressing slightly compared to the last quarter of 2024, but remains a minority at the beginning of the year, according to a study published on Tuesday.
About 26% of the bosses questioned expressed their confidence in the economic measures announced or established by the President of the Republic and its government, according to the survey conducted by the IFOP Survey Institute for Fiducial (Commercial Services)*. There were only 17% to share this opinion in the survey last December and January, the weakest result since the beginning of the Macron presidency. The increase at the beginning of the year has been the first since January 2024.
However, an improvement to qualify, because only 3% of TPE bosses say they have “completely safe”, a stable level, while a majority (51%) has no “confidence”, a fall in nine points.
Less than half of optimistic business leaders
Among these guidelines mentioned by True, a discussion among social partners on pension reform “without the possibility of projection in precise measures or a clearly defined calendar”, or “the gap between François Bayrou’s speech, considered little convincing and fluctuating, and its perceived inaction.”
In addition, even if the moral of the bosses is experiencing a slight rebirth, remains mainly in a mast medium: less than half, 48%, are optimistic for their own activity, but it is the best result from the first quarter of 2023. And 78% are pessimistic in the general climate of business, but there are less 7 points compared to the late 2024.
Only two digits of positive evolution: 36% indicate to find financial difficulties, ten points less than in the previous quarter. On the employment side, only 10% claim to have hired or planned to hire personnel at the beginning of the year, three more points than in the previous quarter.
*The study was carried out by telephone from March 24 to April 9 with 1,002 TPE managers from 0 to 19 employees, including self -employed workers.
