Talking about short-time work in a 24-hour activity, every day of the year, is a non-subject for AHP’s executive vice president. At a time when several sectors of the country are without workers, Cristina Siza Vieira argues that “emigrants” are needed and wants mobility agreements with CPLP countries to be accelerated.
The director of António Costa is drawing the red card for not including greater incentives for job creation and the improvement of workers’ wages in the state budget for 2023 (OE2023). TAP asks it to avoid the strikes scheduled for December and warns of the impact the strike could have on tourism this year-end.
At the beginning of the year there was a shortage of 45,000 workers in tourism – 15,000 in the hotel industry. Does the screenplay hold up?
The shortage continues. Our expectation is that mobility agreements can solve a classic problem.
The association has been a critical voice against the slowness and bureaucracy surrounding these agreements. Are steps already being taken?
I still have no positive feedback to give. I don’t know if we’ll have news as soon as we’d like. There are other situations that we have to solve, such as the housing issue. Most hotels do not have the capacity to accommodate their staff.
