460 victims, 4,500 videos … an Australian surgeon accused of filming in hospitals for four years

According to Associated Press, Ryan Cho, 28, will probably face almost 500 positions linked to 4,500 intimate videos illegally captured with phones, three hospitals in Melbourne.

In total, at least 460 women have been filmed, said Australian police, since 2021.

It was the discovery of a phone in a filming bag in the bathrooms of the Austin hospital last July, which led to Ryan Cho’s arrest. At the moment, the authorities have not mentioned a dissemination of these images raised for several years.

After becoming Australian citizen last April, the apprentice surgeon was released in Bond by his parents, who came from Singapore and settled in Australia awaiting the release of his son.

127 charges added to the file

Also according to Associated Press, Judge James Elliott ruled that Ryan Cho could be released if, and only if the latter remains with his parents. His last were forced to deposit a tank of $ 50,000 Australian dollars, or 27,685.50 euros.

For the defendant to abandon the territory, his Singgapure passport was confiscated, explains the judge. Despite Australian naturalization, Ryan Cho runs the risk of a prison sentence of 12 months or more, accompanied by expulsion if he is convicted.

Initially accused of six crimes, Ryan Cho saw 127 charges added to the investigation this Thursday, including “the intentional record of intimate images without authorization.” It has not yet been guilty.

This Thursday, August 21, leaving Melbourne’s Palace of Justice, wearing sunglasses on his glasses and a surgical mask, Ryan Cho did not respond to journalists’ requests.

When asked about a possible interference in the testimonies of the victims, his lawyer Julian McMahon said that “there is a feeling here that my client had to commit the criminal crime of interference with the witnesses, that would not affect the result of the case.”

Waiting for a trial, Ryan Cho will have to appear three times a week to the police station.
