It is expected that expenses related to international trips in the United States decrease around 7%, or 12.5 billion dollars (11.25 billion euros), in 2025, due to political tensions and the rebirth of the dollar, which pushes foreign visitors to favor other destinations, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
International travelers avoid vacations in the United States, the administration policy of President Donald Trump causing the fear of being arrested on the border and an unfavorable rate, said Julia Simpson, general director of WTTC, which represents the private travel sector.
The United States remains the largest economy of travel and tourism worldwide, but it is expected that the expense of international visitors to the country falls in less than $ 169 billion this year, compared to $ 181 billion in 2024, a 22% drop compared to the summit reached in 2019.

According to Julia Simpson, a strong dollar, which makes vacations in the United States more expensive, led to a fall in travel expenses abroad at the country in 2024. Policies and concerns about the border passage also weigh visits to the United States.
In March, Germany updated its travel advice in the United States, emphasizing that a visa or an exemption does not guarantee entry, after several detention at the border. Donald Trump’s administration requires registering and taking digital footprints for foreigners aged 14 and over 30 days, including Canadians, who could previously visit the country for up to six months without visa.
