The princely gift made by Qatar to Donald Trump, a Boeing 747 estimated at $ 400 million, does not happen. The head of the Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, announced that he would establish an obstacle to confirmation of Donald Trump’s appointments to the Ministry of Justice, as a reprisal measure.
Donald Trump firmly defended his choice on the day before accepting this gift. The Republican president said that he would be “stupid” to reject such a gift, which he intends to make his new presidential plane.
The Democratic senators had already denounced on Monday a “conflict of obvious interests”, especially because the US Constitution prohibits the depositors of the public authority from accepting gifts “by a king, a prince or a foreign state.”
“With respect to this deeply disturbing news of a possible air force funded by Qatar, and the information that the Minister of Justice has personally approved this agreement clearly contrary to ethics, announced a suspension of all appointments to the Ministry of Justice, until we obtained more answers,” says Chuck Schumer in his speech.
Appointments could decrease
In the United States, the Constitution requires the Senate to confirm the appointments of ministers and other senior officials. If the Democrats are a minority, they have regulatory means to largely stop the process.
After the announcement of this gift from Qatar, Chuck Schumer demands a specialized unit of the Ministry of Justice “to do their job and reveal all the activities of the foreign agents of Qatar in the United States that could benefit President Trump or the Trump organization”, the family company of the Republican Billionaire.
The Democratic tenor also urges that all the light will be thrown on the agreement with Qatar, and in particular if the Emirate will be responsible for installing the security devices on board. On Monday, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy had already promised to block any sale of future weapons to a “country that conducts direct personal issues with Trump”
