Anger anger: lifting the blockade in Pau while waiting for the continuation of the movement

About 80 taxis, according to the unions, and around fifty, according to the Prefecture, marched on Saturday afternoon in the streets of Pau, a way of attracting their “reverence,” Damien Bretin, a taxi driver in Charente and departmental president of the National Federation of Independent Taxis (FNI), told AFP.

According to several unions, the protesters planned to get up on Saturday night, the meeting point and blockade established since May 19 in front of the city station, below the emblematic boulevard des pyrénées.

“We are going to have one last meal and interrupt the movement,” said Jean-Marie Touré, president of Pyrées-Atlantiques. “The demonstration should end on Sunday morning,” confirmed the Prefecture, informing about thirty taxis present on Saturday around 5.30 pm in front of the station, “which is still accessible to travelers.”

90 motorists had “surrounded” the center

A little earlier, around 90 taxis, according to the police and the protesters, had “surrounded” a shopping center for an hour, for a last day “of mobilization in Pau, a city of which François Bayrou is the mayor. In their ranks, a handful of rural coordination farmers present in support.

Drivers demonstrate in particular against an agreement that modifies their remuneration for patient transport. This activity represents a significant part of its rotation, especially in rural areas.

The new price, which will enter into force on October 1, provides the treatment of 13 euros per health insurance, then a kilometer rate.

“We want the convention to be checked correctly, but if you don’t give anything, I will continue to mobilize,” said Loïc Renault, 42, by taxi from Tarn.

While new meetings are scheduled for next week on Wednesday with the Ministry of Health and Thursday with Transportation, Taxis promise to continue their movement.

In Paris, the Rally point in Boulevard Raspail was “maintained” on Saturday with “very few cars,” said Rachid Boudjema, of the National Taxis Union. But “since Sunday night, we left,” he warned.
