One million euros per day: fraud to the means of payment is still important, but the French are more prudent

According to the banking sector, 54% of the French say they have already been victims of an attempt to scam with the bank data and made 10%. In companies, it is the fraud to the transfer that is furious.

Fraud in card payments, fraudulent transfers, demanding for false banking advisors, false websites …, the number and types of scams aimed at stealing their bank data or tearing that it has never been numerous.

Therefore, according to the latest figures in the Banking of France, the French Banking Federation (FBF) and the Observatory for the Security of the Payment Means (OSMP), in the first half of this year, the total amount of these frauds reached a bit of 179 million euros, or 29.8 million per month and almost 1 million euros per day …

An amount remains very important but withdrawn by 2% for a year, underlines the banking sector that welcomes the greatest caution of French consumers, especially the elderly.

However, 54% of the French say that they have already been victims of an attempt to scam with the bank data (three points less compared to 2024) and 1 in 10 people say they were actually a victim.

More good reflexes

But thanks to communication campaigns and the media coverage of many scams, good reflexes are beginning to be adopted. In addition, a new prevention campaign is launched this Wednesday in the fear: “Banking codes, passwords and identifiers: never give these data.”

88% of French ignore calls of unknown or unexpected origin, 77% use a specific password in their bank account and 61% change it regularly. Seven out of ten French activate the double authentication, and 73% verify that the websites they consult are safe.

Almost nine out of ten French people know what a phishing (Phishing) is, 88% of the French know fraud to the false bank advisor, 84% of fraud to feelings and friendship, 80% of the computer rescue application and 76% of fraud in the loan.

In the case of a scam, reflexes also improve. A third of the victims first communicate with their bank, 28% oppose immediately and 18% have a complaint, a 7 -point figure compared to the previous year.

However, certain risky behaviors continue: 39% of the French foresee their identifiers and passwords on the website or the application of their bank and 28% record their bank data in commercial sites.

25% of SMEs and fraud victims

On the commercial side, the trend is opposite. According to a survey conducted by the DFCG (the Network of Financial Managers) and the Bank of Notes, 85% of SMEs and ETIS have undergone at least one fraud attempt in the last twelve months, against 60% in 2020. A quarter of them has been scammed.

Transfer fraud is the favorite operating mode of pirates and represents, according to the study, 57% of successful fraud.

“The transfer is particularly vulnerable because it combines three risk factors: potentially high amounts, quickly irreversible rapid execution, often insufficiently insufficiently the validation processes,” analyzes Jean-Daniel Guyot, co-founder and president of the Executive Board of the Memo Bank.

If 78% of financial losses remain less than 50,000 euros, 64% of victims companies never manage to recover deviant funds.
