Before Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom, France becomes the third country that has most of the world’s millionaires

According to UBS’s global Wealth report, France had 2.89 millionaires in dollars last year, 20,000 more for a year. The country is located behind the United States and China.

France goes back to the podium in countries with most millionaires in dollars. After being duplicated by the United Kingdom in 2023, the country recovers its third world place, according to the latest world wealth report by Swiss Bank UBS.

A little more than 2.89 million millionaires registered against 2.87 a year earlier, or around 20,000 more. The country is behind the United States, which culminates with 23.8 million, or almost 40% of the total (+1.5% in one year).

“It is more than four times more than the second country, Continental China and more than France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Japan and Australia together,” says the report together.

60 million millionaires worldwide

Therefore, China occupies second place (6.3 million, +2.3%), while Japan is fourth (2.7 million) and Germany closes the TOP5 with 2.6 million millionaires in dollars.

In total, UBS estimates that the total number of millionaires worldwide is around 60 million (+1.2%) for a total asset estimated at 226.4 dollars (a trillon is equal to 1,000 billion in the United States).

What were the most striking developments in 2024? For UBS, Türkiye is distinguished thanks to an 8.4% increase in the number of its millionaires, or 7,000 additional millionaires in a single year. The United Arab Emirates arrive in the second position with an increase of 5.8%, thanks to around 13,000 new participants in this category.

India is also one of the countries where the increase in the number of Millionaires is the most significant with a gain of 39,000 people (+4.4%).

On the contrary, some countries see the number of their millionaires that go back as in Japan (-1.5%), Germany (-0.5%) or Greece.

Difficult to draw economic conclusions from it. This is an estimate of an inheritance in the local currency turned into dollars. The evolution of the number of millionaires (excluding the United States) mainly reflects the evolution of the local currency compared to the dollar.

301,503 dollars: average per capita wealth in France

The UBS report also analyzes per capita wealth, defined as the value of financial assets and real estate held by homes, less their debts.

In general, the inhabitants of North America are, on average, the richest (593,347 of US dollars) in 2024, followed by those of Oceania (496,696 dollars) and Western Europe ($ 287,688).

Outside Switzerland, Denmark is the country in Europe, where the inhabitants are on average the richest with $ 481,558, or the sixth in the world.

France arrives 16th with an average wealth per inhabits $ 301,503, much ahead of Germany 19 (256,715 dollars) but behind Belgium (12 with 349,404 dollars).

It is in Hungary where this average has increased more for a year in local currency (+18%), ahead of Sweden (+15%) and Italy (+15%). While it has fallen abruptly in Türkiye (-21%) beaten by a two-digit inflation and Russia (-8.2%) subject to Western sanctions.
