Dominique Schelcher was unanimously renewed on Tuesday as CEO of Cooperative U, the fourth French distributor, for a six -year term that should be the last, the brand said in a statement transmitted to AFP.
For this second term, Dominique Schelcher gave himself two main objectives: reaching 15% of the market share and “bringing to the next generation,” AFP told Tuesday, saying that he does not want to present himself for a third mandate at the end of the second.
Cooperative U, fourth French distributor (behind E. Leclerc, Carrefour and Intemché) with about 12% of the market share, achieved 26.9 billion euros instead in 2024.
1,800 stores
Since the arrival of Dominique Schelcher to his head, Cooperative U “has experienced constant development,” said the brand in its press release. In six years, the billing of the dispenser (excluding fuel) has increased by 37%, thanks, in particular, to the expansion of the number of stores.
Cooperative U today claims more than 1,800 stores, against less than 1,600 when the leader arrived at the chief of the cooperative.
“In this context of the great agitation of the profession, there is the temptation to twist a model, of the order of values … My pride, together, is that the cooperative or did not deviate from its foundations,” the CEO of the brand told the AFP Tuesday morning, in reference to the difficult context of that mass distribution, in the middle of prices.
This year, U has obtained the concentration of the Schiever group, which previously showed the Auchan brand at its points of sale, and migrates. The first is rather present in the Northeast neighborhood of France, the second in the border area with Switzerland.
The brand also claims 767 million rotation outside continental France, with 40 stores in Africa, 29 in the Antilles, 43 in the Indian Ocean and 26 in the Pacific Ocean in particular, he said during the last presentation of his annual results.
