“A process of compliance with the law”: beaten by a nuclear contract in the Czech Republic, EDF sees his complaint rejected by a court

It was not likely that the procedure assigned this contract of 16 billion euros, formally signed in early June, but in the case of Victoria, EDF could have claimed financial compensation.

A Czech Court rejected on Wednesday rejected a complaint filed by the French group EDF against the award for a praga of a two reactor construction contract in the South Korea KHNP, a decision immediately received by the Government. “The application was rejected,” said a spokesman for the Regional Court of Brno, the second city of the Czech Republic, where the file was examined. It was not likely that the procedure assigned this contract of 16 billion euros, formally signed in early June, but in the case of Victoria, EDF could have claimed financial compensation.

The Minister of Industry, Lukas Vlcek, praised the judgment on social network X, seeing “the confirmation of the fact that the call to tenders was transparent and in accordance with the law”, contrary to what the EDF states. It is a historical investment for the country of central Europe of 10.9 million inhabitants, which moves away from coal and has been released from oil and Moscow gas.

A procedure that is still being carried out with the European Commission

The French electrician group, launched in the summer of 2024, has presented several appeals. In vain until now. Now he has eight days to dispute the decision with the Administrative Court of the Alta. It also resorted to the European Commission and a procedure is being carried out to verify that the rules of the game have been fair, while it is suspected that the South Korean company has received subsidies that distort the competition.

This would have allowed Khhhn to offer an unbeatable offer: around 200 billion Czech crowns for the construction of each reactor (8 billion euros) on the Dukany site, in the south of the country. The site will be supposed to begin in 2029 for a start -up of the first reactor in 2036 and strengthen the energy independence of the Czech Republic.
