“It’s just magic.” The fourth transplant of the French uterus was carried out successfully at the Foch Hospital in Suresnes, on June 14, says France Inter. The patient, a 27 -year -old girl, the young woman, “suffered from Rokitansky Syndrome (MRKH), head of infertility by uterine agenesis (unbeating without uterus),” said the health establishment in a press release published Wednesday.
The donor of this transplant patient is none other than his mother. “The transplant was carried out from the uterus of a living donor (his mother). Everything went as planned, the two patients were fine and returned home 10 days later,” he added to the hospital statement.
“I love her and I am infinitely grateful, there are no words to express what she has done, it is only magic,” said the grafted patient, who must now undergo fertilization In vitro with the hope of a pregnancy.
“Significant scientific advances”
The transplant was carried out by the teams of Professor Jean-Marc Ayoubi, Head of the Obstetric Gynecology Service and Reproduction Medicine of the Foch Hospital in Surresnes. It is for him that we owe him the first three transplants of the uterus in France (in 2019, 2022 and 2023), which allowed the birth of three “perfect health” babies.
This transplant, which “mobilized more than twenty researchers” and lasted 6 PM, according to the hospital press release, is a substantial advance for women suffering from Rokitansky syndrome, which refers to a woman in 4,000 or infertility. Foch Hospital is delighted “with significant scientific advances in transplant and reproduction fields.”
