The hunters sent to install a trap: a bear that walks in an airport in Japan leads to the cancellation of several flights

Several flights were canceled and the landing path temporarily closed this Thursday, June 26 due to a bear wandered around the Yamagata airport land in northern Japan.

A bear wandered through a Japanese airport caused the cancellation of several flights on Thursday and the temporary closure of the site, while the hunters were called reinforcement to try to catch the animal.

The black bear appeared on Thursday morning at the Yamagata airport enclosure in northern Japan, causing the immediate closure of the track. This first appearance caused until one hour late for four flights, before the animal reappeared around noon, this time, “running” on the track.

Airport staff tried to postpone it with a vehicle, but the bear is still released somewhere on the site, the track closed again.

This second closure led to the cancellation of 12 flights.

Rescue hunters

The hunters were sent to install a trap, while the police surrounded the airport to prevent the escape bear.

The meetings between humans and Bear reached a record level in Japan, with 219 people attacked and six dead in the 12 months prior to April 2024. Last month, the presence of a bear had shortened a golf women tournament in the center of the country, the organizers invoked security reasons.

According to scientists, climate change, which changes food sources and hibernation cycles, as well as depopulation linked to society aging, push bears to venture more frequently in inhabited areas.
