Working conditions “clear degradation”, social acquired “questioned”: French employees of Ikea on strike

The unions deplore a “degradation of social dialogue” with management and denounce the “position” of management within the framework of mandatory annual negotiations.

Several hundred employees of the IKEA Furniture Giant smell on strike this Tuesday in several cities in France, particularly for a “degradation of social dialogue” with the management of remuneration and working conditions.

The movement gathered “25% of the strikers in the present workforce” in 19 stores, according to Abdelkader Mekki Daoudji, delegate of CFDT. No brand has closed, but the setbacks took place in certain services of the Swedish company, which has 36 stores and 12,000 employees in France.

Social acquired “questioned”

The CFDT, the CGT and FO denounced in a press release the “position” of management within the framework of the mandatory annual negotiations (NAO) about remuneration. They point out an absence of collective increase in salaries, working conditions “clearly” and social skills “question.”

Questioned by AFP, Ikea France considers that Nao meetings “took place in accordance with the social calendar.” The Swedish brand has been attacked by several strike movements since the beginning of the year in other countries, such as the Netherlands, Italy or Canada, in relation to the level of wages and working conditions.
