From 10 to 70% of the surcharge: Donald Trump will begin informing the countries led by customs tasks as of August 1

The US president said they consider sending a letter this Friday to the United States commercial partners to inform them about the taxes of punitive customs tasks that would come into force on August 1.

Donald Trump said he was planning to send, this Friday, the commercial partners of the United States, letters that inform them about the taxes of the tasks of punitive customs, which would come into force on August 1, while the negotiations on the subject are in their final stretch.

“We are going to send letters, probably tomorrow,” he said, adding: “10 or 12” The letters would begin on Friday, then other letters “in the next few days”, “All countries” will be “covered for July 9”.

July 9 is the deadline established by Donald Trump so that dozens of commercial partners in the United States, ranging from Taiwan to the European Union, manage to conclude an agreement with Washington. With respect to the rates that will appear in these letters, “they can vary in value of 60 or 70% of customs tasks to 10 and 20% of customs duties,” said Donald Trump. According to him, the countries in question will begin paying on August 1.

New agreements for July 9?

In early April, the US president caused a shock wave by announcing a drastic increase in customs tasks against the rest of the world: a minimum surcharge of 10%, which can increase to 50% for countries that export more to the United States than are important for US products.

Then, the president suspended these customs taxes, leaving the way for commercial negotiations with each of the partners. American officials have said that a series of commercial agreements could be announced in the next few days. At the moment, Donald Trump’s administration has only revealed agreements with the United Kingdom and Vietnam, while Washington and Beijing agreed to temporarily reduce their reciprocal taxes. The European Union hopes to conclude an agreement in the next few days.
