Crossroads and Cooperative U will negotiate their purchases together at European level to weigh more against industrialists

With this alliance, the two distributors want to “massify volumes” to negotiate lower prices and be more competitive in a very competitive sector.

Carrefour and Cooperative U, two of the French distribution giants, announced on Monday a “European purchase alliance” to negotiate along with the suppliers, through an acquisition energy plant that will be based on Brussels, the two brands indicated to the AFP, confirming information from the specialized media.

“This new alliance will point, by massaging the volumes, increasing competitiveness to the purchase of its partners,” said Carrefour and Cooperativo U, respectively, second and fourth French distributors, in a sector where size is a weight lever to negotiate prices with a discount.

For the two distributors, it is a way to try to weigh more against the leader of the E. Reclercler sector, which is already part of an international purchasing plant, Eurelec, with the German distributor Rewe and the Belgo-Dutch A Delhaize.
