According to the observations of the UFC-Que Choisir association, after a burning in 2023 ( +10%) and a slight decrease a year later (-1%), these prices increase by 2025 with an average of +2%.
Of 118 products analyzed (online) by the association between the beginning of July 2024 and the beginning of July 2025, 41 saw their prices increase by 2% or more, 23 registered a drop of at least 2% and 54 remained stable.
The association is surprised by this increase, while the “quotes of raw materials, in particular those of the paper pulp have fallen since then. On the other hand, it is true that the cost of several raw materials (energy, packaging) remains higher than the one that prevailed before 2020”.
Lower raw materials but …
“There is no matter of returning to price levels before the mass inflation caused by the recovery after 2021 cavidas, and especially by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022,” the association continues.
Another lever feed price, reducing market size. “The workforce should lose 110,000 to 120,000 students each year, according to the Ministry of National Education, which does not make a dynamic market probable that they are strong promotions.”
However, the UFC emphasizes that the shopping time has an impact on spending. “It is possible to play on the purchase dates. In general, the price of supplies falls slightly during the summer, before flying in early September,” he said.
“It is better to buy the essential supplies in August, even if that means doing it before having the specific requests of each teacher after the start of the school year in September.”
“Since the beginning of September, prices are exploding,” confirms Tuesday in BFMTV, Noah Baudoin, which estimates the price burst for two weeks at the beginning of the school year.

The association recalls that families confronted with financial difficulties can receive help in resources. These are homes with children from 6 to 18 years, who are educated, in apprentices or attend to a specialized reception establishment.
This assignment (which has been revalued this year) is:
- 423.48 euros per child from 6 to 10 years (age as of December 31, 2024),
- 446.85 euros per child from 11 to 14 years,
- 462.32 euros per child from 15 to 18 years.
