A few disturbing seconds. This Sunday, July 13, Squeezie published a new video. In this production, called “This billionaire has lost everything due to a whim”, the YouTubeur returns to the story of Jon Jiang, a billionaire who wanted to create the new Avatar Chinese.
For almost 30 minutes, the content creator returns to his trip full of difficulties in creating his sea box office success at 130 million dollars … that will never be transmitted. If the video is in the main trends on YouTube, with more than 2.4 million views, an annoying detail to Internet users. The cameraman decided to use AI.
“There was a way to call artists”
Then we can see that a hero in Gladiator’s costume appears on the screen. In the following plans, several Greeks seem to party and drink glasses when an army of giant crabs of mountainees arrives in the city. One of the crabs captures the father of the hero. The latter goes on a boat on the island of the crabs. Several combat sequences with gods, mermaids, fairies or even crab demons continued before the great final revelation … The great villain was in fact the hero.
The sequence lasts less than a minute. But it is enough to cause the anger of Internet users. In the video comments space, criticism is raining. Fans criticize Squeezie for not having hired illustrators or graphic designers, while “has the media.”
“A 2D or 3D animated sequence instead of the passage in AI would have been very great and fun to see! It allows artists to be put forward and always does better than the generated images that lack creativity,” writes one of them.
“Dimol, the use of generative was not necessary. With the means you have available, there was a way to resort to artists for reconstruction, even without having in high quality,” adds another. Some highlight the precariousness of the artists, who are gradually replaced by AI.
“I don’t know if people realize the state of the cultural environment at this time. We need help, support, but above all: (…) to be hired for our work. () Avoiding the generative AI is already a great step when we know the ethical problems for artists,” he continues.
In X, ex-twitter, observation is the same. “It is a dinguería to put AI in their videos several million visits, especially when you are surrounded by artists and an illustrator community,” says a surfer. YouTubeur was even in the higher tendency X France on Monday, July 14. At the moment, Squeezie has not reacted to this wave of comments.
The use of Iaube is debated
This is not the first time that Internet users have been outraged when using AI by a cameraman. Last November, many users reproached Reprowner for having used AI to generate a poster part of the DTR fight, its boxing gala.
If Internet users punish the use of AI, on the contrary, the vast majority of content creators seem favorable for the use of this technology.
However, everyone is unanimous: “Today, no creator plans to replace their teams with an AI,” recalls Hugo Prunier, graphic designer specialized in the creation of miniatures on YouTube. AI is mainly used as technical or creative support.
This was, for example, the case of the DTR fight. Rebeudeter had explained that he simply called a graphic designer who decided to use AI. “The brothers, I see it a lot from the poster because there is AI, but I paid a graphic designer to do it (I had no directive of AI or what. I left him to Carte Blanche),” he wrote on X, on November 22.
