Europe about to sign an agreement with Trump on customs tasks at a very high rate of 15%

The European Union and the United States are moving towards a commercial agreement that would provide basic customs tariffs of 15% in European products imported to the US territory.

Europeans did not want it, but eventually they would have given up fear of a higher rate. According to the Financial Times, the EU and the United States are about to conclude a commercial agreement that would impose customs duties of 15% in European products. The information that Reuters seems to have been confirmed to two European diplomatic sources.

It would be an agreement similar to that announced by the US president last night with Japan. In addition, in the process, Donald Trump said that “Europe would arrive tomorrow, and the next day, we have others that arrive.”

Therefore, it is bad news for the Europeans, but Brussels would have ended up accepting these reciprocal taxes, called to avoid the threat of US President to take them to 30% since August 1, three people told Financial Times to the situation.

The two parties would renounce the customs tasks of certain products, including airplanes, spirits and medical devices, the sources said. Customs tasks in cars would fall to 15% against 27.5%.

The EU does not propagate reprisals

As a reminder, since April, European exporters have been paying an additional customs right of 10% in goods sent to the United States. A tax that is added to pre -existing rights, which amounted to average to 4.8 %.

However, Brussels would maintain his desire to use measures to be backed up at 93 billion euros in imported products from the United States that would be reached by an entry rate of 30%.

This 15% rate for European exporters would be similar to that applied to the Japanese. However, it would be less advantageous than that of the agreement signed between the United States and the United Kingdom, which establishes a reduction of 27.5% to 10% of customs tasks in cars (up to 100,000 vehicles per year), as well as an exemption of rights for the aerospace sector, such as British masters of British Rolls Royce. The rest of the imports of British manufacturing products remain subject to the 10%floor tasks.
