“A great day for the United States!”: Donald Trump confirms that the date of entry into force of customs tasks on August 1 will not postpone

The US president said that his customs duties will take effect on August 1, it is not expected that it is not expected.

There will be no additional time. In his social network network, Donald Trump said that the date of entry into force of customs duties will not be postponed and, therefore, remains scheduled for August 1.

Signed agreements with a handful of countries

Since the beginning of April and the presentation of customs duties called incorrectly “reciprocal” by Donald Trump, all products that enter the United States have been affected by a 10%surcharge. It must be higher for the main commercial partners, in particular those with which Washington believes that it has a commercial deficit.

After announcing customs duties of up to 50% for more than 80 countries, Donald Trump arrested it, the first time until July 9 and then until August 1, time to negotiate trade agreements. Six so far have been signed, with the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan and the European Union (EU), with specific customs duties between 15% and 20%, lower than those announced in early April for these countries.

About twenty countries had received a White House letter that announced customs duties between 25% and 50%.

But Donald Trump also said on Monday that the United States “would impose a customs rate for most of the world”, which would apply to countries that have not completed a commercial agreement with Washington. This basic global rate would be between 15% and 20%, said the US president, speaking from Scotland during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

China’s particular case remains, a privileged objective of Donald Trump. In recent weeks, the first two world powers have entered a customs supervision, up to 125% in American products and 145% in Chinese products, before finding an agreement in May in Geneva to return to 10% on one side and 30% in the other. Since then, the two governments have discussed in London and must still negotiate to advance their commercial disputes and possibly extend the truce.
