At the end of August, Pap Ndiaye, the Minister of National Education, acknowledged this: “We have recruitment difficulties in certain sectors, in certain academies. We have to deal with a tense situation.”
In concrete terms, 4,000 teachers would be missing, a situation that worries the parents of the students and encourages them to take the initiative. In particular, through the publication of job offers for home support.
For both teachers and students, this type of course provides significant additional income. With a buoyant context, their searches on employment platforms intensify.
Proposed Salary Increase
Illustration with fact. According to a study* by the search engine in France, the peak of searches for the keywords “teacher” or “teacher” in July, used by teachers or students to teach, reached its highest level since 2019.
The weight of job offers remains comparable to last year, but the salary offered increased 8% to 17.6 euros an hour, Indeed says. This increase can be explained by parental anxiety but also by the recent possibility of directly obtaining a 50% tax credit.
Certain subjects are in particular demand, notably foreign languages (almost 7% of the total supply of teachers), French (almost 5%) and, to a lesser extent, mathematics (less than 2%).
A demand especially from the Ile-de-France region
More than 7 out of 10 teaching positions available on the platform are explicitly dedicated to tutoring, with the volume of contract positions in National Education being quite marginal, we can read.
This trend is mostly Ile-de-France notes in fact. The Ile-de-France region concentrates more than 40% of teaching vacancies (compared to 16% of total vacancies) and is the only one where the weight of teacher announcements is greater than the weight of the region in the total of vacancies.
Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (less than 12% of teacher vacancies), Occitanie (7%) and the southern region (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, 6%) follow far behind.
*: Teaching positions are defined from advertisements that Indeed has identified as corresponding to positions for teachers, professors, or homework aides. Ads related to extracurricular activities in general (music, theater, sports, etc.) have been deliberately excluded. Searches for chairs are matched to those containing the keywords “professor” or “teacher.”
