It is the first in Europe. A driverless train in the controls circulated in Europe for the first time independently in an open environment in the Czech Republic. The machine, Baptized Edit, connects two small cities in the north of the territory, in a 24 -kilometer lane that was abandoned in 2010 before the AZD rail operator, which produces transport and signage control systems, does not buy it in 2016.
Edita is the first free driving train in Europe in a circular environment with levels of levels, in which other rail companies circulate, said Michal Novak, a AZD rail developer.
“There are systems in which autonomous vehicles circulate, but they are often special forms that are closed, such as the subway or transfers between the airport terminals,” said the manager.
Pilot service technology
The company has invested 320 million Czech crowns (around 13 million euros) in the project, using EU financing for about a third of the amount.
After having traveled about 1,700 kilometers with passengers, Edita is based on cameras, lasers, satellite navigation and an integrated digital card to obtain information about your trips. “The train works independently. It is equipped with systems that allow us to control its traction, brakes and speed,” said the railway developer.
The train has already had to stop due to a herd of sheep, even if this type of incident is rare, said Michal Novak. Czech legislation, however, requires the presence of a driver to supervise at least the operation of the device.
Autonomous Trains Projects in France
In France, the SNCF announced in April wishing to circulate an autonomous train, for the verification of high -speed tracks. The first judgments for 2028 are expected, with an expected start -up for 2030.
For its part, the manufacturer Alstom has already tried the circulation of controlled trains remotely, with passengers, in the fall of 2024 in a dedicated section. Alstom had already tried the circulation of a maneuvering locomotive in 2022.
