“It’s hypocrisy”: farmers denounce the sale of acetamipride in stores

The farmers of Burgundy and Alsatians denounced on Thursday the continuation of the sale to individuals of products that contain acetamipride pesticides, despite the recent censorship of their reintroduction in France for agricultural use.

In Dijon, a few dozen farmers went to tractors in a DIY store to eliminate anti-fierce bottles. Then they deposited them before the Burgundy-French Regional Council-Comp, controlled by a socialist majority.

“It is hypocrisy,” he added in front of a banner shown on the facade of the Hôtel de Région and marked: “Acetamipride for sale. Where is the cohesion?”

“It’s absurd,” said Antoine Duthu, president of the young farmers (JA) of Côte d’Or, at the origin of the event with the FDSEA (majority): “We are prohibited from Acetamipride and is above the cash in stores.”

In the Bas-Rhin, the FDSEA and the JA they wrote to the big distribution brands to ask them to withdraw these products and announced that, if not, they would do it on August 20.

Prohibited since 2018

“It is a national word of the Fensea and the young farmers that we reject today in the department,” said Laurent Fischer, general secretary of Bas-Rhin Fdsea. “It will be done with respect,” said Gérard Lorber, its president.

Specific products will be stored in cars and stickers fixed to empty shelves, to educate consumers. These products containing acetamipride are hazelnuts or fruits (apples, pears, etc.), not produced in France, or insecticides for the general public.

Acetamipride is used in particular by producers of hazelnuts and sugar beet. It has been prohibited since 2018 due to its consequences in biodiversity and health. Its reintroduction is claimed by the majority agricultural unions that believe that French peasants are competed by products imported from countries that, themselves, still authorize pesticide.

This reintroduction, provided for in the Duploo Law approved in July, was censored by the Constitutional Council. A petition against this law raised 2.1 million signatures.
