His speech, pronounced on the occasion of the Independence Festival from the imposing walls of the Red Fort in New Delhi, intervenes that India faces intense pressure and threats of additional customs rights of the United States.
US ultimatum
Donald Trump has given India, one of the largest crude oil importers in the world, three weeks to find alternative suppliers to Russia. For the US President, the deadline of August 27 is an attempt to deprive Moscow of significant income for his offensive in Ukraine. The samples of 25% already in force will be doubled to 50% if India does not conclude an agreement.
The Indian Prime Minister has urged scientists and engineers to focus on the development of key sectors and technologies, including combat aircraft, semiconductors and military equipment systems.
“At the end of the year, we will have semiconductors made in India in the market,” he said. Narendra Modi also announced that the country was working on the construction of its own space station and would have a “defense shield” during the next decade, without giving more details.
